Sundays Sentiments

-Monday April 28th, 2014

There’s this extreme feeling of gratitude that washes over me on a particular New York Street as I walk the same sentimental Sunday walk I do weekly, and look forward to immensely. It’s an internal beat, a mental clarity, which comes when the city is calm and forgiving. This walk almost seems like a salutation of youth, a bizarre mixture of joy and humility, with a twenty- year- old fear of the future. This Sunday’s Sentiments are about succumbing to the youthful discomfort change brings, learning to embrace joyful moments for just what they are, and living fully present in the experiences that will one day become the coveted memories we re-tell in our elder years.

Getting to Know the New Face of Givenchy & Victorias Secret Runway Star Maria Borges

Maria Borges stopped by the West Village today to say hi, and give Style&Air a little interview with the newest face of Givenchy, and Victorias Secret newcomer. I first met Maria, in the "accountant to the supermodels" apartment one random Tuesday night last year, before all her successes on the runways. She told me how she moved to New York City having placed top ten in the Elite Angola model search competition, and from there was scouted by Supreme Model Management. I remember being shocked at how sweet and genuine she was, so it's no surprise that Maria's first season walking the shows was one for the history books. Considered a top newcomer on Models.com, Maria walked for almost all the top designers, (Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Jonathan Saunders, Erdem, Tom Ford, Missoni, Mugler, Kenzo, Givenchy,) to name a few, along with booking the Givenchy exclusive in Paris. Aside from being 5 11' and drop dead gorgeous, the beauty has a unique personal style, and a sense of humor that makes her hard not to love. Above all, Maria continues to book some of the most coveted jobs in fashion, and as a model of color fights through racism in the industry, and stands to be kind and authentic.

What were your favorite shows to walk?
